Jazz at The Barn, Welwyn Garden City: Birth of The Cool -Live

Hertfordshire based musician, Matt Ward, invites guests to the final Jazz at the Barn gig of the season, with another Summer Spectacular in the main auditorium.

This concert will be a full live performance of Miles Davis’s innovative and seminal album, Birth of the Cool, recreated by some of Hertfordshire’s most prolific jazz musicians. Birth of the Cool is a compilation album released in 1957 by Capitol Records, recorded by Davis and his jazz nonet lineup. The recording featured an unusual instrumentation and its music consisted of original arrangements influenced by classical music techniques. It marked a major development in post-bebop music, ushering in a new period of ‘cool’ jazz.

Musical Director of the award-winning Hertfordshire Big Band, Tom Harker, leads a select line-up for their take on this paradigm-shifting album.
