Gig Mini Review: Tsirus

Saturday’s JazzUp! concert featured Liverpool-based and Nu-Jazz orientated, Tsirus. There were lots of floaty Fender-Rhodes type keyboard sounds from Oli Silva Pinto Collins who was backed by confident and muscular drumming from Joe Keech and very interesting bass lines from Elliott Simpson-Rooke. The trio were complemented by guests, Olympia Vitalis, who added gorgeous, diaphanous vocals and Nick Willshire, whose alto sax provided sharp focus to the musical mix. The band credits many modern influences but their sound also had more than a touch of 70s jazz fusion -think Tom Scott’s LA Express. Overall a refreshing concert from a very interesting emerging band.
